Chappuis (1973, p.89) suggested that the profile is probably copied from a portrait of Frédéric Chopin.
Anonymous after Michelango (attributed), Écorché, dit de Michel-Ange, 16th century, plaster cast, École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, Paris. Cezanne had a modern reproduction in his Les Lauves studio.
