Cezanne may have executed this work after an engraving reproduced in Charles Blanc's Ecole Espagnole (1869), as suggested by Rewald (1983, p. 101) or from an engraving, which appeared in L'Artiste (1838–39), as suggested by G. Ballas (1981).
