This still life was painted at the Jas de Bouffan. A section of the verso of the paravent Paravent avec scènes champêtres et ornements, c.1859 (560), once thought to be by the artist,  is seen in the background, and the sugar pot, first painted into a early stil life Sucrier, poires et tasse bleue, 1865–66 (706), sits on the table.
