Notes
This work probably replaced Les Baigneurs au repos, 1875–76 (924) at the last minute in the Third Impressionist exhibition. Degas made a sketch of the central figure of this painting, having seen it at the exhibition.
The work was given by the artist to Ernest Cabaner, who died in 1881. Gustave Caillebotte bought it from Cabaner's estate and bequeathed it to the French State at his death in 1894 – it was rejected.
Cézanne made a lithograph after the painting for Vollard.
