Notes
The figure of Christ, upper left, is drawn after a reproduction of Pedrode Moyas' painting Visión de Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi (Vision of Saint Mary Magdalene de Pazzi), Museo bellas artes, Granada, the scene lower left after José vendido por sus hermanos (Joseph Sold by his Brothers), Museo del Prado, Madrid. Cezanne probably knew both works from wood-engraved reproductions in Charles Blanc's 1869 Histoire des peintres de toutes les écoles: Ecole espagnole. The bust of the woman is taken from an engraving after Tintoretto's portrait of his daughter, published in Charles Blanc's Ecole vénitienne.
