The first exhibition of Cézanne's paintings in Germany. According to the Durand-Ruel archives, the gallery sent twelve paintings to the show, including No. 719 and an unidentified oil (Pommes) that they had acquired from Robert de Bonnières in April 1897 and later sold to Maurice Fabre. The last three paintings (Nos. 11–13) had been bought by Emil Heilbut (on behalf of the Cassirers) from Vollard in April 1900, for 6000 francs each. Although the catalogue lists only thirteen paintings, fifteen were actually shown, no. 5, as Kleine Häuser in Antwerpen [sic: Auvers], lent by Durand-Ruel, not for sale.
For the first time potographs of works by Cezanne were displayed in four frames each containing nine images, no. 24 (Salle Cézanne) and nos. 2045-2047 (Photographie), no. 22, as Les petites Maisons d'Auvergne, lent by Durand-Ruel.
An exhibition of 315 works organized by Durand-Ruel. (exhibition catalogue with a seperate volume of illustrations: A Selection from the pictures by Boudin, ..., see link below), no. 41, (dated 1881), as Cottages at Auvers, lent by Galerie Durand-Ruel.

Alain Mothe has identified the site. The house at the right in the painting still exists in Pontoise at 39, rue des Coteaux in an area called Le Chou. The same houses appear in Pissarro's La Récolte des pommes de terre, Pontoise, 1874.
