"The small head of a bearded man is a copy after that of Diogenes in Pierre Puget's monumental relief The Meeting of Alexander and Diogenes (Louvre, no. 1468)," identified by Shoemaker and Reff.

The front and back covers are of linen-covered board. Notation on back endpaper "LII x 2", indicating 52 recto and verso sheets. The pages are numbered in Roman numerals at the lower right corner of the recto ("a") in a soft blue-gray pencil. The sketchbook is unbound.
