Venturi (1936) described the colors in the painting as: "Ciel gris-noir. Maison grise, toit brun. Sur le devant, un plateau gris-brun. A droite, en bas, une masse feuillue d'un brun rougeâtre. Tout le reste est vert-noir. Coup de pinceau très gras, qui annonce l'emploi du couteau à palette."
