According to Rewald (1996, p. 69), this painting could be a copy after an engraving.
Venturi (1936) described the colors in the painting as: "Le plancher est brun-rouge. Le rideau est vert sur un mur brun. Le panier à gauche, d'un rouge-jaune. Le matelas d'un rose rougeâtre. Les chairs de la petite fille sont roses. Les cheveux d'un blond roux. La petite fille est drapée de deux étoffes, l'une entre le blanc et le bleu clair, l'autre vert sombre. Le perroquet est vert, jaune, rouge."
