Notes
Chappuis (1973, p. 208) suggests a resemblance to Louis Guillaume; Andersen (1970, no.153) suggests that it is sketch of Cezanne fils.
This work is part of a sketchbook:
Sketchbook Chappuis II (CP II), 1871–98 (3008)
Sketchbook Chappuis II (CP II), 1871–98 (3008)
The sketchbook originally contained 50 sheets; the pages are numbered on the "a" side at lower right in Roman numerals.
At the time of Chappuis' purchase from Paul Guillaume, the sketchbook was incomplete and a number of pages already dispersed and are still missing.
