Notes
This work appears in Armand Guillaumin's, Portrait of Dr. Martinez, 1878, painted in the artist's studio. Guillaumin's La Seine à Paris hangs above the sitter's head.
Venturi (1936) described the colors in the painting as: "Fond gris-vert. Table brune. Robe brun-gris. Chairs roses. Cheveux et foulard noirs avec touches brunes."
Van Buren (1966) saw similarities in Hortense's dress to that worn in Madame Cezanne accoudée, 1873–74 (432), except for velvet bands.
