Notes
L. Gowing, Th. Reff and W.V. Andersen suggest that the woman's pose is inspired by the nymph of Poussin's painting Echo et Narcisse, Louvre, despite differences in the position of her legs.
Chappuis (1973, p. 93) relates the female's poses to one of the women in the left background of L'Enlèvement (FWN 590) and the decorated vase to one in Une Moderne Olympia (FWN614).
