Notes

This painting is Cézanne's earliest representation of the avenue of chestnut trees at the Jas de Bouffan. Gowing noted that this work "evidently owes something to the avenues painted in the sixties by Pissarro." (Edinburgh and London, 1954).

Les Marronniers et le bassin du Jas de Bouffan, 1868–70 (possibly later) (FWN 55). The allée of chestnut trees as the Jas de Bouffan.
