According to Chappuis (1973, p. 58), the two sketches of heads are studies for Cezanne's copy of Le Baiser de la Muse after Frillié (FWN572) in the Musée Granet.

Cezanne shared this sketchbook with his sister Marie. Many sheets are missing. It is possible that there were originally 40 sheets in the sketchbook as indicated by "XXXx2" written on the back endpaper. The pages are numbered in Roman numerals on the recto ("a") side of the sheet at the bottom right.
