Notes
Scholars have suggested various sources for this paintings among them The Marriage of Cana (Veronese), Capture of Constantinople by the Crusaders and The Women of Algiers(Delacroix), possibly Expulsion of Heliodorus mural at St-Sulpice (S. Lichentstein, 1964) or an early poem by the artist (Reff, 1963). For a full analysis, see Lewis 1969.
