This portrait of Cézanne's father was painted on the wall of the salon at the Jas de Bouffan, flanked by Les Quatres Saisons, two on each side (Les Quatre Saisons: Le Printemps, 1860–61 (561), Les Quatre Saisons: L'Été, 1860–61 (562), Les Quatre Saisons: L'Hiver, 1860–61 (563) and Les Quatre Saisons: L'Automne, 1860–61 (564)).
