Notes
Cezanne's watercolor was inspired by the painting Le Concert Champêtre once attributed to Giorgione (now Titian). Charles Blanc published an engraving of the work in Ecole Vénitienne (1868), but Cezanne does not seem to have copied it here.
This work is part of a sketchbook:
Sketchbook Chappuis II (CP II), 1871–98 (3008)
Sketchbook Chappuis II (CP II), 1871–98 (3008)
The sketchbook originally contained 50 sheets; the pages are numbered on the "a" side at lower right in Roman numerals.
At the time of Chappuis' purchase from Paul Guillaume, the sketchbook was incomplete and a number of pages already dispersed and are still missing.
Record last updated March 24, 2021. Please note that the information on this and all pages is periodically reviewed and subject to change.
