Remarks

Chocquet sat for Cézanne in the dining room of Chocquet's rue de Rivoli apartment in Paris. He was painted in a similar pose in Renoir's portrait of Chocquet, c. 1875 (Harvard Art Museums/Fogg Museum, Cambridge, Mass).
